Christmas or Xmas??
Something has been confusing me about usage of Christmas and Xmas. I have seem people writing Xmas as a signature or it seem like shorter version of Christmas. I remembered my High School teacher teaching about Malcolm X. He said "Malcolm doesn't want to used his slave last name so that he replaced it with X as a last name which mean unknown." So I looked up the dictionary about what X mean. "An unknown or unnamed factor, thing, or person." I also see when we uses Xmas the word Christ was lost. So I started to wonder was Xmas created by someone who was ashamed to uses Christ so that replaced by X. It has been so common in outside world that I go by
Unconsciously using it too.. What do u think???

Thanks Kelly for very interesting topic ... and I am very please with your insight ...
Please check below link for historical background where the word X comes from...
Personally I like to agree with you that many people seem to take Christ out of Christmas to take advantage to secularize the holiday. Bottom line is ... I still like to use the word not "Xmas" but "Christmas"

Thank you Kell and Aunty Jae for very interesting post and article.
"So, rather than being upset when you see “Xmas,” let it all the more remind you of the person who is represented by that “X”—Jesus the Christ. I myself am also reminded of the similar emblem of the cross."
i used X'mas since i was a kid cuz i couldn't really spell Christmas correctly at that time. it's easy, so i got used to it and still using it alot. thanks kel for pointing out the fact that we christians sometime act or say the things without knowing actual meaning. then we become bad example to others unintentionally …… which is NOT good…… the only way we should act, say or live is to glorify HIS name!!!!!
Now that i know X stands for Christ, it’s more meaningful to use X’mas.
Merry X’mas everyone!!!
thank Kelly for pointed out the "X" meaning i did't know that before like Nawy Nawy i'm poor in spelling so that i use it alost. now i know that what is "X" mean but i will use it the meanning of JESUS not that the word take it.
